Valerio Marra

Private Instructor - Boston, MA, USA
Rated 5/5 by 1 student
Since I started sailing, my mission has been to demystify sailboat design: understanding how they work, how their design affects their function, and how to sail them faster. I love teaching performance sailing to intermediate/advanced sailors who still wonder, "How does that control line do what it does?" My goal is sailing well, with speed, balance, and safety. I designed and delivered "The Physics of Yacht Design" seminar series, covering the most important aspects of yacht design at an accessible level. It requires only high-school math and physics knowledge, yet it is detailed enough to interest both beginner and experienced sailors. My favorite sailboat is the J/80, and I volunteer as a skipper for adaptive sailing programs whenever possible. I hold a PhD in fluid machines and energy systems engineering, as well as an MSc in nuclear engineering, specializing in numerical methods for computational fluid dynamics. The NauticEd online sailing courses supplement practical training performed by a sailing school. With NauticEd, you can take as long as you need to complete a sailing course, take the tests as many times as you like and review the content for life.

Your sailing school instructor will digitally sign off on your sailing certification when you pass your practical hands-on sailing training. Your sailing certificate is then updated in real-time for you to print out and hang with pride on your office wall. Each time you pass another sailing course, your sailing certificate is automatically updated.
