Valerio Marra

Private Instructor - Boston, MA, USA
Rated 5/5 by 1 student
Hi, I'm Valerio Marra, a sailing instructor based in Boston, MA. I’m all about helping sailors understand how boats work. Whether you’re looking to boost your skills or just want to know why your boat behaves the way it does, I’ve got you covered. About Me: As an engineer, I’m drawn to the mechanics of sailing. How design, balance, and control all influence performance. I focus on performance sailing for those who want to understand the "why" behind every move on the water. My Teaching Style: I keep things relaxed, practical, and fun so you can build skills, gain confidence, and enjoy the ride. Favorite Boat: The J/80 is my go-to. It’s fast, fun, and perfect for both learning and pushing your limits. Giving Back: Sailing should be for everyone. I volunteer as a skipper in adaptive sailing programs to help people of all abilities enjoy time on the water. I offer SLC training and assessments for both sail and power vessels. Reach out anytime to book a session or ask a question.

Billy Crotty

Private Instructor - newburyport, MA, USA
I grew up in Ireland with water all around but never sailed. It was not until I was in my 20's that I took a class and began sailing in Boston, even doing the frostbite series. Life got in the way again and it was not till my 40's that I had the money and time to see sailing as something I wanted to take seriously and gain the experience and confidence to charter a boat in the Caribbean. 6 years ago, as i began my transition to Retirement. I saw sailing as a way to not only make my passion a retirement gig but a way to stay active and involved in the boating community. To that end I became an instructor with ASA. Credentials: ASA 201,2,3,4,5,6,14 &18 Taught in Narragansett, Boston and the US Virgin Islands Sailing: Crossed the Atlantic in 2024, Delivered boats from Puerto Rico, Caribbean, Florida and Delaware In 2025 I became a NauticEd instructor and opened my own school. NauticEd’s philosophy around competence, confidence and experience resonated with me
