Level IV Captain Rank Qualified Instructor/Assessor
Since I started sailing, my mission has been demystifying sailboat design: how they work, how their design affects their function, and how to sail them faster. I love teaching performance sailing to intermediate/advanced sailors who are still wondering "how does that control line do what it does?" Sailing well, fast and balanced, and safely are my goals. I designed and delivered a "The Physics of Yacht Design" seminar series where the most important aspects of yacht design are covered at an accessible level (high-school math and physics is all that is needed), but detailed enough to be of interest to beginner and experienced sailors alike. My favorite sailboat is the J/80. I volunteer as a skipper for adaptive sailing programs anytime I can. I received a PhD in fluid machines and energy systems engineering and a MSc in nuclear engineering, focusing on numerical methods for computational fluid dynamics.
