Level IV Captain Rank Chief Sailing Instructor / Assessor

Rated 4.98/5 by 12 students
Captain J's father was a lobster fisherman. Even while fulfilling his mother's ambitions, that he become an architect, Captain J always kept a toe in the water. As the years passed Captain J's foot kept getting wetter. After finding a like-minded First Mate, Captain J sold the house, and moved to a sailboat, where the couple raised two children while island hopping the Caribbean. At the children's request "we want to be normal", we returned to civilization (a misnomer).

Joaquin was a fantastic asset to the overall SLC program. A great teacher who can very quickly pick up on your strengths and weakness while preparing you for the final examination. Our friendly interaction made the testing experience feel like just another good day of sailing.

Captain J was very professional and very thorough. Despite a few minor boat mechanical issues (hey- It’s a boat!). We enjoyed our Competency Test.

Joaquin was a pleasure to have as a captain and teacher. He was patient, let me skipper his boat and execute all maneuvers, clearly addressed questions, and was professional throughout. A true pleasure - I highly recommend him.

Very professional with great people skills however strict . Eludes confidence and trust on the candidate, he is really didactic when needed . I will recommend him immediately as a sailing teacher and mentor.

Joaquin was GREAT! He was super nice, thoughtful and very knowledgeable. It was a fun and challenging day! Joaquin took a lot of time to talk through all tasks, and offer additional insight and instruction. He also had a bunch of helpful tips!
