This four-day certification cruise will take you beyond Catalina to anchor at the smallest of the Channel Islands. It’s a bit more challenging than Catalina as there are no moorings, and no restaurants or stores. You’ll navigate, steer, trim, manage systems, anchor, and if conditions permit, dinghy ashore and hike around the island. We’ll spend a night on Santa Barbara Island, maybe two nights depending on conditions, and then it’s on to Catalina. Navigation skills, weather awareness, anchoring, dinghy operations, and a willingness to experience the untethered life are essential on this cruise. You’ll work on all the skills in the Bareboat Charter Master rubrics, and you can elect to test through for the SLC Mediterranean Sailing License. This is an excellent way to venture further than most weekend cruisers do, and gain experience in self-reliant cruising. Crew complete the meal planning and provisioning (a shared expense among crew) as part of the certification. Please note, you can join the cruise just for the experience without going through the formal training and certification process. Link to more information about this Opportunity.

    Price
$3,115 per private cabin (up to 2 persons per cabin), 8% LBH fee
This is the sail training trip you’re going to remember for a long time. It’s been said that if you can cruise the Northern Channel Islands, you can cruise anywhere. It’s windy, it can be wild, and there are no restaurants or stores, no beach bars, and no moorings. We’ll be on our own. And that’s the exciting part. Just take a look at the pictures in the gallery below, and I think you’ll agree that these are some of the most interesting and beautiful islands to explore under sail. The seven-day itinerary varies with the conditions, but we always look toward San Miguel if conditions permit, and we usually visit Santa Cruz, Santa Barbara Island, and Catalina. You’ll work on all the skills in the Bareboat Charter Master rubrics, and you can elect to test through for the SLC Mediterranean Sailing License. Crew complete the meal planning and provisioning (a shared expense among crew) as part of the certification. Anchoring confidently with bow and stern anchors, and with a single hook, are perhaps the most important skills when it comes to enjoying Catalina. Consider this - have you ever worried about whether moorings would be available, or gotten stressed about the online reservation system? No worries here. When you understand where and how to anchor under the stars, you’ll experience the best parts of the island. Moorings will become just another option, and not something to worry about. On this trip you’ll navigate from Long Beach to Catalina, and learn to anchor both bow and stern, and with a single anchor off the bow, in the best coves on Catalina. This is the perfect way to learn how the confident cruisers do it around the world without having to depend on getting a mooring. Bring your spouse/partner/buddy along and learn to work as a team. Earn your NauticEd anchoring endorsement too! Menu planning and provisioning is included. $90 per persons for provisions, plus 8% LBH fee Link to more information about this Opportunity.
