John Ensley has been sailing since he was 11 years old (he was 11 in 1980) and has been sharing his knowledge, experience and passion for sailing and cruising as a professional sailing instructor since 2016, with over 200 aspiring sailors earning their certifications on his watch, many of whom are now cruising and chartering all over the world. John is owner of Cruise and Learn Sailing International and holds a U.S. Coast Guard Master Credential (“Captain’s License”), is a recipient of American Sailing’s prestigious “Outstanding Instructor of the Year award,” and is excited and honored to serve as a NauticEd professional sailing instructor and pactical competency assessor. John's feels strongly that it isn't just about certification stickers in little log books; it's really about making you a fully competent sailor and skipper so you can safey enjoy all that the sailing life has to offer, and condently share that amazing experience with family and friends for the rest of your days.

Swantown Marina is home base for Puelche, our Jeanneau 45.2 (3 cabin/3head monohull) and she is located here between mid-September and May. June thru mid-September she is usually operating out of Cap Sante Marina in Anacortes WA, near the San Juan Islands... We operate courses out of La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico Nov - April... We operate courses in The Virgin Islands, Bahamas, and anywhere in the world thru Charter agreements...

Puelche, our Jeanneau 45.2 operates out of Cap Sante Marina in the San Juan Islands in WA State and Gulf Islands in B.C. Canada during the summer sailing season, June - mid-September.

CNLSI Sea of Cortez

We collaborate with a partner school in La Paz, BCS, Mexico. We operate our courses aboard our partner school's training vessels during the winter sailing season Nov - April: DuFour 455 (4 cabin/2head monohull) Jeanneau 44 (3 cabin/2 head monohull) Fountaine Pajot Belize 43 (4 cabin/2head catamaran) Lagoon 38 (3 cabin/2head catamaran)

CNLSI Worldwide

Cruise and Learn Sailing International can operate 1-week Cruise and Learn Sailing certification courses in the Virgin Islands, Bahamas or other world-wide cruising grounds via charter agreements with Dream Yacht Charters and Navigare.
Notes: We operate in Puget Sound, San Juan Islands in Washington State and Gulf Islands in B.C. Canada during the summer sailing season, May - October. We operate in collaboration with a partner sailing school in La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico during the winter sailing season, November - April We also operate courses via charter agreements in the Virgin Islands, Bahamas and any where else in the world upon request.
