I started out sailing at 16 years old by buying a home built 12' sloop. Over the years have owned 6 boats and sailed OPB (other peoples boats) for many years. Some highlights are sailing from Hawaii to Dana Point on a 54' Morgan center cockpit (three weeks at sea), racing from Newport to Ensenada (4 times), and crewing on two historic schooners, Kelpie and Curlew. Both built in the 1920's and 82' long. I love to share sailing with people and have done teaching at Aventura Sailing Assoc. I am known for my patience and calm demeanor onboard. Sailing is in my blood and teaching is my pleasure.

I definitely need more practice and I'm taking the next course, but overall I feel like I learned a ton and got some really great foundations!

Roger has a wonderful and patient demeanor. Being a newbie, the amount of information can be a bit overwhelming, but his ability to use anecdotes to impart his knowledge, made it fun to learn and easier to understand. All around a great experience and would highly recommend learning from him.

I want to continue to practice all that I learned, which is why I'm back for more. Roger is an excellent teacher and gives his students confidence in understanding what and why we are executing particular maneuvers.

Roger is a great instructor. When I returned to Santana sailing for my Skipper large keelboat course, I specifically requested Roger. If I take any future classes I would be happy to have them taught by Roger. He is patient, has a deep breadth of knowledge, and decades of experience.

Roger was an exceptional instructor. This course was expensive for my budget, but with how much I have learnt, it was WORTH IT. And I have to attribute much of that to Roger. He was patient and allowed us to learn by doing. When I first began the course, I felt overwhelmed by the nautical equipment on the boat and the terminology. Fortunately, Roger just had a way of putting those nerves to rest and explaining concepts in a way that made it easy for me to understand and digest. By the end of the course, I found myself looking around the vessel thinking, "That's the mainsheet traveler, that's the rolling furler for the jib, there's the main halyard, and I know what all of these things do and how to use them". I could really recognize my contrast in knowledge in comparison to when I first began! Our final day of the course was a beautiful clear sky day in September. Roger stepped back and allowed us to work as a team. My fellow students and I found ourselves sailing the boat with ease an
