Find Sailing & Powerboating Schools and Instructors in British Virgin Islands

Explore Schools and Instructors by Location

The British Virgin Islands offers a highly regarded boating environment built around short island passages, protected anchorages, line-of-sight navigation, and steady trade-wind conditions in a compact cruising area. That combination makes it an outstanding place to build boating skill in sail handling, anchoring, docking, route planning, and confident decision-making across both sheltered harbors and more open channels.

NauticEd connects you with recognized schools and experienced instructors across The British Virgin Islands who provide hands-on, on-the-water training for both sailing and powerboating. Combined with NauticEd’s multimedia online courses, this approach builds real-world competence in line with U.S. Coast Guard American National Standards and international licensing frameworks, so you can confidently sail and powerboat anywhere in the world.

From the helm of a high-performance powerboat to the mast of a racing sloop, my life has been defined by the turquoise waters of the British Virgin Islands. I am Coach Javan—a lifelong mariner, dual-certified instructor, and the owner-operator of a premier BVI powerboat charter fleet. My sailing journey began on an Optimist at the tender age of 6 in Road Harbour. For the next decade, we (my fellow sailors and I) competed in a dozen regattas every year. Over the years, more than a dozen sailing instructors volunteered and poured into us to ensure that we would have the opportunity to become professional sailors. Our last regatta boat was a IC24 (a modified J/24). I continue to enjoy living on Tortola and working as a private boating coach at any charter company in The British Virgin Islands - The Sailing Capital of the World. I love nurturing boaters and the nautical lifestyle.
