Penny Whiting's course was no nonsense and designed to give you skills to get you sailing; the emphasis is on the practical. Between her book, DVD, and sailing time on Endless Summer, students are exposed to the material via different learning modalities (complemented nicely by the introductory NauticEd offerings). If you are not able to acknowledge and learn from the mistakes you make while learning, if you expect a gold star just for showing up, this course may be some cold salty spray in the face. Feedback is straightforward -- you'll find out what you did right and what you did wrong immediately. You'll be told what the appropriate standard is, and what you need to do to meet it. As with any course, the more time you put in preparing for the actual sessions, the more you (and your classmates) will get out of the class.
