Nelson Garcez

Private Instructor - East Hampton, NY, USA
I've been sailing for over 17 years in the New York Harbor and Long Island Sound in small and medium size keelboats. Sailing for me is not just a passion but mainly a way to connect with nature and understand how to live in balance with the elements. I would like my students to learn how to sail in a simple but effective way, taking out the complications and developing a safe and conscious approach to the most fulfilling sport in the world. Location notes: I train on a J/28 monohull sailboat. Training is done between May and September

Private Instructor - New York, NY, USA
I don't remember the first time I went sailing, but it is family lore. Two years old, having stayed on the beach and hearing how much fun everyone else had on a boat, I announced that I'd like to go sailing. My family dropped everything and that was it. From there I've spent a lot of time on other people's boats. Coastal cruising in Monterey Bay and San Diego. Family sailing in San Fransisco Bay, Catalina Island, Santa Barbara. Collegiate dingy racing and corinthian big boat racing on Lake Michigan. Delivery through the Panama Canal. Charters in Caribbean, Great Lakes, the Med. But some of the best sailing I've known has been in the New York City because of the Hudson River Community Sailing where I started volunteering with new sailors, high schoolers, racers, and the general public. Now I've expanded to teach and share my love of sailing aboard Calliope, a 36 foot sailboat in Long Island Sound. Helping new sailors get move from small keelboats to "big boat" sailing and cruising. Location notes: I train on a 1987 Sabre 36 sailboat in western Long Island Sound, from May through October each year. During the winter months, I am available to travel and assist with skippering in the US and Caribbean. Just contact me for more info.

The NauticEd online sailing courses supplement practical training performed by a sailing school. With NauticEd, you can take as long as you need to complete a sailing course, take the tests as many times as you like and review the content for life.

Your sailing school instructor will digitally sign off on your sailing certification when you pass your practical hands-on sailing training. Your sailing certificate is then updated in real-time for you to print out and hang with pride on your office wall. Each time you pass another sailing course, your sailing certificate is automatically updated.
