It seems that back winding the jib while tacking a monohull would be a good idea also, especially in light winds where there may be less momentum going into the tack.

I would agree with you! Cats tack very slowly because of the lateral resistance in the water created by two hulls. On a monohull, especially with a fin keel, good sailors will backwind the jib momentarily to help the bow around but it happens much quicker so there isn't a "need" for it as much as on a catamaran. Good grinders and trimmers help!
