Why B&R allows to use arc?

Why B&R allows to use arc?

"The advantage of the B&R rig is that without a backstay in the way, an arch over the top of the cockpit can be used to house the traveler for the main sheet." I can't understand how the backstay interferes with the arch. I believe I saw boats with both even in this course pictures. I feel like I'm missing something. thanks in advance for explanation!

The arch towards the stern would interfere with the back stay. However some boats recently have moved the arch way forward which allows it but the leverage to move the boom across is reduced. We will add to the text here
