Capt. John Salinas is a long time sailor with years of experience in the San Juan/Gulf Island area (The Salish Sea). He is a member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary and has introduced many new sailors to the sport. Here is information about S/V Alethea (http://www.islandsailing.org/sailing-courses/san-juan-cruise-learn/). Alethea is a wonderful sailing vessel with entirely new sails, rigging, engine and many of the amenities that make being out on the water comfortable. We can plan to cruise to places you have heard about, read about, or just want to know more. We will sit down with a map and plan our anchorages before we leave. You will be an important part of our cruise planning. We will work with the tides, currents, and weather to plan a safe and enjoyable cruise. I look forward to being with you during this exciting time in your sailing journey, I wish you safe travel and welcome aboard, Capt. John Salinas

Over-the-top fabulous. John and Kathleen are an amazing teaching team. Never a moment of stress. They provide great instruction, answer every question, and are fun to spend the weekend with. Being teachers in their previous life, they not only know their stuff, but know how to share that knowledge. Highly recommended!! (And the San Juans are gorgeous and tricky, a perfect combination.)

Wonderful class on a wonderful boat in a wonderful location. Bonus: two instructors for the price of one. I learned a lot. Downside: we had one student who hadn't done his pre-work, so that affected the tempo a bit. Students need to show up fully prepared, i.e., if they haven't completed the written Nauticed classes, they should not be allowed to take the practical portion of the course.

Great instruction. John was flexible in his style which really helped me on a 42ft yacht. He was patient and keen to give both depth and breadth of experience. I would definitely be comfortable with a smaller sailing boat now. I would highly recommend him.
