The science behind virtual reality sailing
Practice for better retention: Sail simulation in an immersive Virtual Reality creates muscle memory by engaging mind and body - enhancing learning and retention, similar to pilots training in simulators.
No cost of mistakes: This is a safe environment to practice in without risk —a more relaxed learning environment.
Accelerate your online + on-the-water training: VR is the perfect complement to other practical classes and enables faster skill acquisition and better retention.
Simply, it’s just FUN!! This is a good excuse to get a Quest VR headset (plenty more "super cool" games and features on Meta Quest). If you're new to VR, you’ll be amazed at the realism!
Meta Quest VR headset (available from the Meta Store or Amazon)
MarineVerse Cup App ($19.99 – available on Meta Quest)
Registration is FREE (includes instructions and sailing resume addition). The VR sailing course requires a Quest headset and $19.99 MarineVerse Cup App.
“As experienced sailors have known for thousands of years, competence requires theory knowledge, practical skills, and lots of experience. VR combines all aspects into a fluid, immersive and fun experience that pushes the boundaries of a user’s imagination in a safe and non-intimidating training environment.” - Grant Headifen
NauticEd and MarineVerse have created the world’s first virtual reality sailing course, “Self Mastery”. The Self Mastery course puts a person at the helm of a 30’ sailboat and controlling the sails with main/jib sheets. All fully immersive, 3-dimensional, and first-person perspective virtual reality. Eight modules and about 2 hours later, you can be steering, trimming, tacking, gybing, and racing around a course. The course is called Self Mastery because within each module, you can spend as much time as they like “playing” until you feel comfortable performing and mastering a skill.
Upon completion of the Virtual Reality Sailing course, you will feel confident that you have the fundamental knowledge and skills to sail a boat. Of course, VR doesn’t replace “real life” on-the-water training and practice, but instead it accelerates and enhances your learning for when you take the helm.
Bonus is that your VR sailing training and experience is added to your NauticEd online course curriculum and sailing resume. Like pilots include their simulator experience in their credentials, sailors can now include their VR experience when renting or chartering a boat.
Also enjoy the many additional features of the MarineVerse Cup app. Just practice relaxed sailing in VR, challenge your skills with racing and a variety of sailboats, and join the MarineVerse virtual worldwide community to meet likeminded sailors and virtual racing and events.
