Level 0 Crew Rank Intern Sailing Instructor / Assessor

Rated 4.4/5 by 3 students
I grew up in the south Puget Sound and started sailing on a Lightning in the early 60’s, and fell in love with the sport immediately. Since1978, I have taught for a college recreation sailing program, sailing clubs, yacht leasing companies, city parks programs, and summer camps between Portland and the San Juan Islands. I got my Instructor Rating in 1984 and received my first USCG License in 1987. It is the pleasure of teaching others and sharing knowledge that deeply informs the nature of what I do as a sailing instructor. As an instructor, I feel a bit like Santa Claus, handing out “gifts” of sailing delight in the form of instruction & coaching. I especially enjoy teaching students the skills & techniques that increase their sailing confidence. My students learn “how to manage the boat . . . rather than being managed by the boat”.
