Our authors are Dr. Viggio Hansen, Captain Ed Mapes, Captains Alex and Daria Blackwell, Captain Jay Brosius, Captain Nick Harvey and NauticEd's own Captain Grant Headifen. Each author is accomplished in their own right for example Dr. Hansen in a professor emeritus at the California State University, Captains Blackwell and Mapes have authored their own books and sailed tens of thousands of miles, Captain Jay Brosius is a renown Meteorologist while also having tens of thousands of sailing miles under his keel. Captain Nick Harvey is an accomplished sailor and lead the introduction of Lagoon Catamarans into the USA market. Captain Grant Headifen has sailed for over 20 years, founded and grew the Sail Time yacht share company from seed to 30 franchised locations around the world, and lead dozens of sailing flotillas to most yacht charter sailing vacation destinations in the world.

In addition to the theory sailing classes provided by NauticEd, in order to gain the Skipper, Bareboat Charter Master and Captain's Ranks, NauticEd requires that the sailing student complete and log practical sailing experience in their logbook. Combining sailing classes and practical experience leads to a recognized Sailing Certification by the world's major bareboat yacht charter companies such as The Moorings, Sunsail, Kiriacoulis, BVI Yacht Charters, Sail TMM, Sailing New Zealand, etc.

The sailing logbook provided by NauticEd is online and free to all NauticEd students. Each student can add their sailing history and then easily keep their sailing experience up to date using the free iPhone and Android Sailing apps which allow the student after a sailing outing to click a few buttons on their mobile device and instantly update their sailing logbook. As the student increases their experience they raise in Level with in each rank of their sailing certification.

A sailing resume is created for each student and is updated online in real-time. For example, as each student passes a sailing lesson, the sailing resume is instantly updated and reflects the theory accomplishments as well as the practical sailing experience. The sailing resume can then easily be shown to bareboat yacht charter companies for determination of eligibility to charter a sailboat on a sailing vacation.
